NAWALPUR: Traffic movement has partially resumed on the Daunne section of the Narayanghat-Butwal road along the East-West Highway, which had been obstructed due to continuous rainfall.
With the rain stopping on Wednesday morning, vehicles have started moving one-way, according to Nawalpur police.
The highway, which became slippery and impassable from 7:30 am on Monday, faced further disruption after a landslide at 1 pm.
Even after clearing the debris, traffic could not resume as stranded vehicles had broken down, causing blockages.
“Vehicles are moving one-way since this morning, but the situation remains unpredictable,” said District Traffic Office Chief Inspector Janakraj Banjara.
The road condition worsened on Tuesday compared to Monday, with continuous obstructions near the Bishwakarma Temple area of Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality-2.
Three days of continuous rainfall have turned the road muddy and slippery, with water washing away soil and gravel, creating potholes that rendered the road unfit for vehicles.
Despite ongoing road widening work on the 14-kilometer Daunne stretch, the absence of blacktopping and drainage has resulted in muddy conditions during rainfall and dust problems during dry weather.
Of the 14 km section, only 3 km towards the western side has been blacktopped, while approximately 2 km on both ends have been concreted for one-way traffic.
