DHANGADHI: A violent brawl erupted among inmates at Kailali District Prison on Friday night, resulting in the death of one prisoner and injuries to 47 others.
Police said three of the injured are in critical condition. The deceased has been identified as Bharat Chaudhary, from Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-4, who was serving a sentence in a drug-related case.
According to Kailali District Police Office, Chaudhary sustained serious injuries in the assault and died while undergoing treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital.
All 47 injured inmates have been admitted to Seti Provincial Hospital, where three are in critical condition, including Ravi Chaudhary, who is being treated in the ICU.
A heavy security presence has been deployed around the hospital, with police strictly restricting entry for relatives and the public.
Police said the clash erupted between two inmate groups, starting as a dispute around 11 p.m. on Friday night and escalating into violence by morning.
Just a day earlier, on Thursday, another inmate scuffle had injured five prisoners.
