KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers’ Federation (NTF) staged a sit-in today at the Nepali Congress central office in Sanepa as part of the first phase of its protest program.

The demonstration will continue until 2 PM. Some of their major demands include revising the teacher recruitment process by filling temporary posts through 75 percent internal competition and 25 percent open competition, instead of the 60–40 ratio proposed in the bill.

They have also called for periodic promotions for permanent teachers, recognition of service periods served as temporary teachers, and the extension of expired teaching licenses.

Further protests are scheduled on Thursday at the CPN-UML central office in Chyasal, and on Friday at the Maoist Centre’s central office in Paris Danda.
