KATHMANDU: The U.S. Embassy in Nepal has handed over two advanced forensic technologies to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) of Nepal Police in Samakhusi, in the presence of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa.

The equipment includes the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a DNA analysis software, and the Radian Atmospheric Pressure Solids Analysis Probe (ASAP) Mass Spectrometer, a drug detection instrument.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Wednesday, IGP Thapa said the new tools would enhance the laboratory’s capacity, enabling faster, more efficient services and generating scientifically reliable evidence. He added that CODIS would bring Nepal’s forensic DNA analysis closer to international standards and strengthen the criminal justice system, while the Radian ASAP would improve drug screening capabilities.

Thapa also thanked the U.S. Embassy for years of support through training, consultations, and equipment, saying the integration of modern technology would bolster law enforcement and public security.
