KATHMANDU: The Gen Z protests on Tuesday inflicted massive destruction on government infrastructure across all seven provinces, with coordinated arson attacks targeting provincial assemblies, chief minister’s offices, courts, police headquarters, and customs offices.

The extent of the damage has left state institutions across the country in disarray.

Koshi Province:

Protesters set fire to the Provincial Assembly building, the Chief Minister’s Office, the Internal Revenue Office, and the Mechi Customs Office.

Madhesh Province:

The provincial government headquarters was set ablaze, along with all secretariat buildings.

In Dhanusha, the District Administration Office building was also torched.

Gandaki Province:

In Pokhara, widespread arson and vandalism hit metropolitan structures.

The Provincial Assembly building, the Kaski District Police Office and its premises, the Kaski District Court, the Pokhara High Court, and the Provincial Public Service Commission office were all set on fire.

Bagmati Province

In Hetauda, most provincial ministries were torched along with the Sub-Metropolitan Office, the High Court, and the Employees Provident Fund Office.

Lumbini Province

In Rupandehi, both the High Court and District Court were torched along with dozens of other government offices.

Protesters also attacked the Internal Revenue Offices and Customs Offices in Butwal and Bhairahawa, setting more than a dozen government offices on fire.

At the Gautam Buddha International Airport, protesters vandalized offices and set official vehicles ablaze.

Karnali Province

In Surkhet, the Provincial Assembly building was torched.

Fires also gutted the Birendranagar Municipality Office, the Survey Office, the Chief Minister’s residence, and the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority office.

Sudurpaschim Province

In Dhangadhi, the Office of the Auditor General was set ablaze.

The Chief Minister’s Office and the Office of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development were also torched.

In Kailali, the District Court, the District Administration Office, the National Investigation Department office, and the District Police Office all suffered heavy fire damage.

Nationwide Impact

The coordinated nature of the arson has paralyzed provincial governments, disrupted judicial services, and halted revenue and customs operations across multiple regions.

Key infrastructure such as airports, courts, and police offices have been left in ruins.

Authorities are still assessing the full scale of the losses, which are expected to run into billions of rupees.

Security forces have been deployed nationwide amid fears of further escalation, as the Gen Z movement shows no signs of retreat.
