KATHMANDU: The Brihat Nagarik Aandolan (Greater Civic Movement) has made it clear that any conspiracy to restore monarchy and remove secularism through the mediation of the Nepal Army will not be accepted.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the movement declared that attempts to overturn the republic and secular order are unacceptable.
The statement began with the call to “defeat counter-revolution,” warning: “What is becoming clear now is that over the bodies of Gen-Z martyrs, a conspiracy is being staged—with the Army’s mediation and cooperation—to bring back monarchy and remove secularism. This is absolutely unacceptable to us.”
The movement stressed that the mandate and sacrifice of the Gen-Z movement were never meant to dismantle republicanism or secularism. It further noted that the Gen-Z protests were not aimed at legitimizing unconstitutional military activism.
The statement also expressed grave concern that “elements who infiltrated the Gen-Z movement, and who from the second day onwards began systematically attacking state institutions, the private sector, and citizens in physical, economic, and psychological ways, are now sitting inside Army headquarters under its hospitality for negotiations. This is extremely frightening and unacceptable.”
The Aandolan urged the military leadership to fulfill its constitutional responsibility and to remain mindful of the historic role of the Gen-Z revolution.
“All forms of interaction with counter-revolutionaries must immediately stop, and all further discussions and programs should take place only under the participation and guardianship of the President,” the statement concluded.
