Finance Minister holds talk with US Ambassador to discuss bilateral ties

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal held a courtesy meeting today with the United States Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, at the Ministry of Finance, Singha Durbar.

The discussions focused on Nepal’s current transitional situation and the forms of support the United States could provide under these circumstances.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Khanal highlighted that the primary responsibilities of the current government, formed under specific circumstances, include completing elections on schedule, implementing reconstruction plans, and boosting private sector morale through relief and incentive packages.

Ambassador Thompson expressed condolences and sympathy for families who lost lives in recent events and emphasized that the US government stands with Nepal in this challenging situation.

He also stressed the need for additional government commitment to ensure timely completion of projects implemented through MCA Nepal under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) assistance.

Minister Khanal assured the Ambassador that there would be no delays from the government’s side in executing tasks necessary for the successful implementation of these projects.

He also highly appreciated the continuous support provided by the US government for Nepal’s socio-economic development.

The meeting was attended by Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Finance’s Foreign Aid Coordination Division Dhaniram Sharma, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from the US Embassy.
