KATHMANDU : A massive dry landslide has blocked both lanes of the Muglin–Kathmandu section of the Prithvi Highway after debris swept down at Jawang Khola Khola section of the Prithvi Highway of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10 of Dhading district.

Authorities said traffic was briefly restored to a single lane after an overnight landslide was cleared, but another large slide soon after forced a complete shutdown of the vital highway. Police reported that continuous rockfall has made it impossible to resume clearance work.

The closure, in effect since last night, has left scores of passengers and bus crews stranded along the highway. Police have urged travelers to remain in safe areas and follow lane discipline while they wait.

The disruption comes just days after a separate landslide near Tuin Khola on the Muglin–Narayangadh stretch shut down traffic for 40 hours, creating long tailbacks.

With many Nepalis heading home for the Dashain festival, the fresh blockage at Dhading has compounded the hardship of already weary travelers.
