KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lok Bahadur Thapa, is representing the country at the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal could not send a high-level delegation to the UNGA this year owing to the adverse situation in the country. As a result, Thapa is leading Nepal’s participation.
The panel discussion of the 80th UNGA officially commenced at the UN Headquarters in New York on September 23.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sought official updates from Nepali Ambassadors in various countries regarding whether those nations have stopped issuing visit visas for Nepali citizens amid the current situation.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri said a discussion was held in the presence of concerned officials on ways to systematize visit visa issuance, following concerns raised about Nepalis traveling abroad.
