KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged caution, forecasting rainfall in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces starting Friday.

Issuing a three-day weather projection on Wednesday morning, the department said that due to the low-pressure system developing in the Bay of Bengal, moisture-laden monsoon winds will enter Nepal, causing heavy rainfall in some areas from Friday.

“Moisture-laden monsoon winds are expected to enter Nepal starting from October 3, making monsoon activity active particularly in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

This indicates that monsoon influence will continue throughout the Dashain festival this year,” the department’s bulletin stated.

It further projected heavier rainfall on Saturday and Sunday. Although the monsoon normally exits Nepal around October 2, this year the duration is expected to extend.
