KATHMANDU: A social media campaign has been launched demanding the arrest of UML Chairman and immediate past Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, along with former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, a member of Oli’s cabinet, who were overthrown following the Gen Z movement.

Activists have circulated posters online labeling them as “murderers” and calling for their immediate arrest.

The posters warn, “Arrest the killers, or we will be forced to take action.”

Sudan Gurung, coordinator of the Haami Nepal, also posted the same poster on social media, urging authorities to arrest Oli and Lekhak.

He called for a trending campaign to pressure their arrest, claiming that the suppression of the Gen Z movement is the responsibility of Oli and others.

During the Gen Z movement, a total of 72 people across Nepal lost their lives.

The then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli refused to cede power even after police shootings in the parliament premises killed 19 people on September 8.

On September 9, Oli was forced to resign before boarding an army helicopter to reach safety at an undisclosed location.

The protests saw widespread destruction, including fires at Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, the Presidential Palace, and the homes of several leaders.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his spouse Arzu Rana Deuba were brutally beaten during the protests and remain hospitalized.

Following these events, the passports of Oli, Lekhak, and other key figures have been suspended, and they are not allowed to leave Kathmandu.
