KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah has committed to resolving structural and policy challenges hindering the growth and export of Nepali organic products.

During an extensive meeting at Singha Durbar with representatives, entrepreneurs, and leaders from the Organic Association Nepal, discussions focused on major obstacles in the sector.

Key issues raised included the absence of an internationally recognized domestic certification body, the disproportionate allocation of government subsidies favoring chemical fertilizers over organic alternatives, high international certification costs, and the need for dedicated policy frameworks.

Addressing these concerns, Prime Minister Shah instructed his secretariat and the Ministry of Agriculture to immediately initiate the necessary legal groundwork and legislative drafting to establish a national organic certification institution.

He also assured industry leaders that dedicated guidelines for organic fertilizer subsidies are currently in development, reiterating the government’s broader commitment to policy reforms, export incentives, and ongoing engagement with entrepreneurs to strengthen local industries.
