KATHMANDU: A high-level meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is currently underway at Singha Durbar, convened by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, to address the aftermath of recent floods and landslides across the country.
The council is discussing measures to enhance relief operations, rebuild damaged infrastructure, and provide temporary and permanent housing for affected communities.
The council has set nine main agendas, including providing relief to disaster-affected families, reopening blocked roads, restoring essential services, offering legal compensation to families of the deceased and missing, managing potential post-disaster epidemics, and constructing temporary shelters for displaced populations.
The meeting also focuses on expressing condolences for lives and property lost and ensuring timely and effective relief distribution.
Attendees include the Prime Minister, federal ministers, chief ministers of Bagmati and Madhes provinces, secretaries of relevant ministries, and heads of security agencies.
The council aims to make critical decisions that will strengthen relief efforts, restore public infrastructure, and safeguard communities from further risks following the recent natural disasters.
