KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Madhesh Province Assembly member Saroj Kumar Singh of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and 15 others at the Special Court in Kathmandu.

The charge sheet was submitted on Thursday, accusing the defendants of misusing funds from the Provincial Parliamentary Development Fund.

The case names several individuals linked to local user committees involved in temple and infrastructure projects.

The CIAA’s investigation found that 28 percent of the total funds deposited in various user committee accounts — amounting to around Rs 3.8 million — were misappropriated by lawmaker Singh, who is also accused of benefiting personally from the misuse.

The charge sheet demands recovery of the embezzled amount from Singh and the others involved.
