KATHMANDU: The government has approved a master plan to build an international-standard cricket stadium at Tribhuvan University (TU) campus in Kirtipur.
The Cabinet, in its Thursday meeting, designated the project as a national priority, estimating a cost of around Rs 10 billion.
Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising stated that the stadium, Nepal’s first international cricket ground, will significantly promote sports and tourism.
The government plans to secure resources and advance construction in phases, ensuring strategic development and modernization.
The Cabinet also approved land agreements, environmental assessments, and the tender process for the second phase of construction.
The first phase is currently underway, with completion targeted before the Nepal Premier League begins on November 17.
The land-use agreement between TU and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is set to expire in May 2026, and relevant authorities have been directed to finalize agreements under existing laws to continue the stadium’s development.
