KATHMANDU: As monsoon is active across the country, natural disaster incidents have also increased in various parts of the country. In the last 24 hours alone, 73 natural disaster incidents have been recorded across the country, with two deaths and one case of missing.

As updated by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the incidents that had occurred between 8:45am on Monday and 8:45am today include floods, landslides, snake bites, incessant rains and wild animal attacks.

According to the available data, 40 incidents of landslides have taken place during that period, affecting 26 districts. There are two casualties from such incidents.

Authority spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that Mandir Saud, 46, and Lal Bahadur Saud, 76, of Dhamigaun, Sannitriveni-6, Kalikot, died after being buried in a landslide.

Similarly, 14 flood incidents have affected 10 districts with one person gone missing and one sustaining injuries.

Spokesperson Mahat said that one person has gone missing along with his scooter in the flood in Makawanpur district. Similarly, eight districts have been affected by 12 incidents triggered by incessant rain. Four cases of snakebite, one case of fire and three cases of wild animal attacks have been registered.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported heavy rainfall across most parts of the country. According to the department, rainfall was at 278 of the 380 rain measurement stations across the country. Of these, 297 are automated.

The highest rainfall measuring 319.8 milliliters was recorded at the Narayani Field Office Station in Chitwan in the last 24 hours. Above 200 milliliters of rain have been recorded at three places around that station.

In addition, above 100 millimeters of rainfall was recorded at 26 monitoring stations nationwide. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, warning that continuous rainfall could lead to the increased levels of water in rivers and streams, triggering landslides, and flooding in urban areas.
