KATHMANDU: During the explosive phase of the Gen Z protests on September 9, the Nepal Army rescued 61 VIPs, including political leaders, by helicopter.
In a press conference held in Kathmandu on Friday, the army stated that the rescue operation covered government residences, including the Ministerial Residence in Bhainsepati, the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, and the President’s office at Sheetal Niwas.
The operation successfully evacuated 61 distinguished individuals along with their family members.
Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet informed that 23 police personnel, who were deployed at various checkpoints and faced life-threatening situations during the protests on September 9, were also evacuated via helicopter.
The army highlighted that after deploying on the streets at 10 PM on September 9, it carried out four main operations.
Among these, it claims to have controlled the incidents of vandalism and arson within 6 to 8 hours.
