CHITWAN: The construction of the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Bharatpur, Chitwan, has reached 40 percent completion.

The project is being developed by the Bharatpur Metropolitan City with support from both provincial and federal governments.

According to city engineer Ghanshyam Mishra, work is currently underway on the parapet and the second floor of both towers.

There are four parapets and two towers in total, with 122 workers currently engaged on-site.

Due to the Tihar festival, the workforce has temporarily reduced to around 25–30 workers, but progress is expected to accelerate after Chhath.

Mishra said that as per the contract, 48 percent of the work should have been completed by now, indicating slight delays.

The project was handed over to the metropolitan city after the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation was unable to continue construction.

The Himalayan Kalinchok BBR JV has been contracted to complete the stadium by January 6, 2027, at a cost of Rs 785 million.

In the first phase, the stadium will include seating for 15,000 spectators, two VIP towers, five cricket pitches, a drainage system, fencing, internal roads, and parking facilities.

The second phase will expand its capacity further.

The stadium is being built on 20 bigha and 19 kattha of land in Bharatpur-15, which belongs to Tribhuvan University and is currently used by the Agriculture and Forestry University.

Once complete, it will meet international standards for hosting major cricket tournaments.
