KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has said that the party’s Central Committee meeting will make a formal decision regarding the upcoming general election on March 5, 2026 and the party’s 15th General Convention.
Speaking at a program held in Surkhet on Tuesday, Khadka stated that the Central Committee meeting starting from October 30 will officially decide on the election, party convention, and the country’s current situation.
He also emphasized that as a democratic party, the Nepali Congress is always prepared for elections. “We will make an official decision through the Central Committee on the party’s convention, elections, and the country’s pressing issues.
Alongside this, we will publicly announce various resolutions — acknowledging past weaknesses, restoring trust and confidence, and reaffirming our responsibility and commitment toward national transformation,” Khadka said.
“Only after that will the Nepali Congress make its official position public, and everyone should take that as the party’s formal stance,” he added.
Acting President Khadka also highlighted that the weapons looted from the police have still not been recovered and that the escaped prisoners remain at large.
“For the first time in history, police morale has dropped to such a low level. Considering this situation, the government announced the elections. Now, through change and reform, the government must work to restore the morale of the police and strengthen the confidence of the security forces,” he said.
Khadka further remarked that the government should motivate political parties to participate in the upcoming elections and create an atmosphere of security and trust among the general voters.
Addressing the program, he also clarified that the party and its leaders are ready to fully cooperate in any lawful investigation or inquiry regarding allegations made against them.
“Our party is open and transparent. However, it is unfortunate to see the growing trend of making biased accusations, spreading confusion, or attempting to weaken others. It is even more disappointing when such statements come from responsible government officials.
Through this assembly, I would like to draw the government’s serious attention to this matter,” Khadka said.
