KATHMANDU: Adverse weather and reduced visibility have disrupted normal flight operations.
Both domestic and international flights from Tribhuvan International Airport have been delayed due to low visibility.
Currently, international flights are on “hold”, and flights to Himalayan destinations such as Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla and Simkot Airport in Humla are also partially affected.
According to Airport General Manager Hansaraj Pandey, only Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations are currently being conducted due to the poor weather. While some flights are delayed, there is no need to cancel any flights at this time.
The country is experiencing the effects of western winds and a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea.
This system is expected to bring light to moderate snowfall and rain in parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, as well as in hilly and Himalayan areas of other provinces, from last night through Wednesday morning, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Forecasting Division.
The sky over the Kathmandu Valley has been cloudy since morning.
