KATHMANDU: The Manaslu trekking route in northern Gorkha has reopened for traffic.

The route had been closed since Thursday due to increased landslide risks from heavy snowfall and rainfall, the District Administration Office, Gorkha, said.

Acting Chief District Officer Chitrangat Baral confirmed the reopening today.

Tourists embarking on the trek are advised to travel with guides and follow necessary safety instructions.

“The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasts gradual improvement in weather, which allowed us to reopen the route,” Baral said.

He added that trekkers should contact the Manaslu Conservation Area or nearby security agencies in case of problems during the journey.

Santosh Sherchan, Chief of the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), urged trekkers to check weather updates and exercise caution, as some sections of the route have been damaged by rainfall.

“Most trails are open, but snow accumulation and damaged paths in some areas require extra care,” he said.

In recent days, some tourists had to turn back from the Manaslu region due to heavy snow and rain.
