KATHMANDU: Former Nepali Congress lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam has passed away.
He died at 2:58 AM while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC), where he had been admitted since last week of October.
Alam, aged 63, died during treatment.He had been placed on a ventilator at KMC after developing heart complications.
Alam had been admitted to the hospital following heart problems. He had also suffered a brain stroke shortly after being released from Nakkhu Prison in May, 2025 and was treated at Annapurna Neuro Hospital in Maitighar at that time.
Alam had been convicted in a high-profile murder case dating back to the 2008 Constituent Assembly election period.
He was accused of burning alive the injured victims of a bomb explosion in a brick kiln in Rautahat.The Rautahat District Court had found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
