KATHMANDU: The National Youth Council (NYC) has called for all local governments to establish the ‘local youth council’.
Executive Director of the Council, Surendra Basnet advocated for the expansion of local youth council for wider mobilization of youths and promoting youth-friendly governance at local level.
He informed that youth council has been established in 36 local level units after framing the work procedure.
It may be noted that the Council has formulated and sent the Local Youth Council Formation, Mobilization and Youth-Friendly Governance Facilitation Materials, 2082 (model), Youth Friendly Governance, 2082 and Directive on Local Level Youth Club, 2082 (Model) to all local level for the formation of local level youth council.
Likewise, the province youth council has been established in Bagmati, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The government had formed the national youth council on March 2016 to contribute to build a prosperous nation by developing leadership and capacity of youths, promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment, and ensuring access and participation of youths.
