CHITWAN: Police have detained eight people in Chitwan for involvement in gambling, among them a local elected representative. They were caught gambling at Lal Chowk in Kalika Municipality-6.
Those taken into custody include Sundarmani Subedi, Chairman of Ratnanagar Municipality-12. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Subash Bhatta of the Area Police Office in Ratnanagar (Tandi), the others arrested are Thakur Prasad Bhatta, 60; Jhalak Amgain, 56; Santosh Lama, 54; Mohan Dangal, 66; Ram Kumar Dangal, 55; Ash Bahadur Gurung, 49; and Shiva Bahadur Amgain, 48.
Authorities seized playing cards and Rs 71,210 in cash during the operation. The suspects are being investigated under the Gambling Act. The arrests took place on Saturday evening.
