KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, asserted that good governance could be promoted even with small initiative forwarded with good intension.
Inspecting the District Administration Office (DAO) in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Minister Kharel reminded that the key demands of the Gen Z generation are good governance and end to corruption. He, thus, urged everyone to play their parts to help achieve those goals by initiating good deeds.
During the inspection, the Minister appreciated the technology-friendly approaches adopted by the DAO for prompt, effective and transparent service delivery. The DAO, Kathmandu has recently implemented the Public Announcement System (PAS) and a token system with QR code aimed at making its service delivery swift, transparent and effective.
On the occasion, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu, Eshwor Raj Poudel, said that the PAS reflects the principles of good governance and citizen-friendly administration. Sharing his personal experience, CDO Poudel recalled that it had taken nearly two hours to obtain the citizenship identity card some two years ago. With the new system in place, the same service could be availed within half an hour, he shared.
The CDO viewed that if the PAS is expanded across DAO offices, citizens could truly experience the presence of good governance.
In reciprocation, Minister Kharel pledged to present a proposal to implement the system nationwide.
The Minister also inspected the DAO Kathmandu’s building that was damaged during the September Gen Z movement.
