CHITWAN: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has registered his candidacy from Chitwan Constituency No. 2 for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
Lamichhane registered his candidacy through a power of attorney issued to Sita Gyawali, chairperson of the RSP Bharatpur Metropolitan Committee.
Assistant Election Officer Deviram Bhandari at the Office of the Chief Election Officer, Chitwan, confirmed that the candidacy was filed through a power of attorney. Bikram Shrestha is listed as Lamichhane’s proposer, while Ramji Thakuri has seconded his candidacy registration.
Lamichhane’s candidacy was registered through a power of attorney as Lamichhane was delayed in arriving due to his presence at Parsa District Court in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
Other key candidates registered from Chitwan-2 include Meena Kharel from the Nepali Congress, Ashwin Ghimire from the CPN (UML), and Pratap Gurung from the Nepali Communist Party.
Similarly, from Chitwan Constituency No. 1, Rajendra Prasad Burlakoti of the Nepali Congress, Dawa Dorje Lama of the UML, Krishnaraj Pant of the Nepali Communist Party, and Hari Dhakal of the RSP have registered their candidacies. Dhakal had previously been elected to the House of Representatives from the RSP.
In Constituency No. 3, Tek Prasad Gurung of the Nepali Congress, Shankar Raj Thapaliya of the UML, Renu Dahal of the Nepali Communist Party, and Sobita Gautam of the RSP have filed their nominations. Dahal submitted her candidacy after resigning from the post of mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
For the upcoming House of Representatives election, Chitwan district has a total of 442,082 voters across its three constituencies. Of them, 217,314 are men, 224,766 are women, and two are third-gender voters.
Voting will take place at 162 polling locations and 494 polling centers across the district. Chief of the District Election Office, Chitwan, Bhimsen Karki, said that compared to the 2022 House of Representatives election, this year’s election has added 33,740 new voters and 34 additional polling centers.
Constituency No. 1 has 149,621 voters, including 76,761 men and 75,860 women. There are 56 polling locations and 168 polling centers in this constituency.
Likewise, Constituency No. 2 has 137,152 voters, of whom 67,857 are men, 69,294 are women, and one is a third-gender voter. Voting there will be conducted through 48 polling centers and 152 polling booths.
According to the District Election Office, Chitwan, Constituency No. 3 has 155,309 voters, including 75,696 men, 79,612 women, and one third-gender voter. Voting in this constituency will take place at 63 polling centers and 174 polling booths. In the 2022 House of Representatives election, the district had a total of 408,342 voters.
