KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has granted consent for Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to use the building at Bhotahity currently occupied by the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police.

The approval allows KMC to utilize the land and structure located at Bhotahity Chowk in KMC Ward 27, covering plot numbers 353, 354, and 355 with a total area of 145.07 square meters. The property is registered in the name of the Samarjung Company and has been used by the Cyber Bureau.

In return, KMC has agreed to register 3,582.99 square meters of land at Ramshah Path, where the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office is located, in the name of the Government of Nepal. This decision was reached following bilateral discussions at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday.

After registration, at least 254.37 square meters of the Ramshah Path land will be allocated for the Samarjung Company office, while the remaining area will continue to be used by the Nepal Police Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.

KMC had earlier sought permission to establish a ward office at the Bhotahity site. Under existing law, public and government land can be utilized by local governments only through coordination with the concerned authority, a requirement fulfilled through the Home Ministry’s consent.
