KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police has requested to borrow 2,800 pistols from the Army to ensure security during the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

According to Police Headquarters in Naxal, the weapons were requested from the Military Headquarters (Jungi Adda) with the understanding that they will be returned after the elections. The Army has approved the request, and the pistols will be distributed to provinces as needed.

Nepal Police previously borrowed weapons from the Army during the November 2022 House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections, as well as during the 2022 local elections, including Chinese pistols, for election security purposes.
