SUNSARI:  The water level in the Saptakoshi River has risen sharply since Sunday morning following continuous rainfall in the hilly regions, marking the highest flow recorded since the start of this year’s monsoon.

According to the Koshi Barrage Control Room, the water flow climbed to 215,135 cusecs per second by 6:00 PM on Sunday, up from 209,840 cusecs at 4:00 PM and 176,305 cusecs in the morning.

In response to the rising water level, 29 out of the 56 sluice gates have been opened.

While heavy rains continue in the upper hilly districts and the river’s volume keeps expanding, local authorities stated that the eastern embankments—including vulnerable zones around Madhuban, Rajabas, and Prakashpur—remain secure and undamaged for the time being.
