KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has said that preparations for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 have reached the final stage.
During a discussion with chiefs and representatives of diplomatic missions in Kathmandu on Thursday, the Commission informed them that preparations for the upcoming parliamentary election are nearly complete.
Commission Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut said that all necessary arrangements related to the election have been completed and that the Commission is committed to conducting a credible election. He added that election code of conduct monitoring committees have been formed in districts across the country and voter education programs are being carried out to ensure a free and fair election. Adequate security personnel have been deployed for the polls, and he stated that no major challenges are anticipated.
Raut also said that to ensure transparent election spending and maintain financial discipline, political parties and candidates have been mandated to open separate election bank accounts.
He expressed confidence that necessary support and cooperation would be received from neighboring and friendly countries to successfully and timely conduct the election.
At the discussion, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said that the Election Commission is working toward holding a clean, fair, and credible election and that preparations are in their final phase. Representatives of diplomatic missions raised election-related queries during the interaction.
