KATHMANDU: A complaint has been filed at the Department of Revenue Investigation against Pankaj Bikram Nembang, president of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), alleging tax evasion.

The complaint was filed on Sunday by Basanta Rijal of Makwanpur, who claims that Nembang concealed foreign earnings and failed to declare them for tax purposes. According to the filing, Nembang has been receiving an annual payment of USD 80,000 since 2023 after being elected as an executive committee member of the Asian Football Confederation during its congress in Bahrain, with his tenure lasting until 2027.

It is alleged that this income has not been reported in Nepal, indicating possible intentional concealment. The complaint also states that the payments were reportedly made through Security International Trade (PAN No: 301441353), with no corresponding disclosure in domestic tax records.

Under Nepal’s Income Tax Act 2058 BS, individuals who reside in the country for 183 days or more in a year must declare their worldwide income. Non-compliance can lead to fines, imprisonment, or both.

Rijal has further urged authorities to coordinate with AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to verify details of the payments and their purpose.
