LaGuardia Airport remained closed Monday morning after an Air Canada Express jet with 76 people aboard collided with a firefighting vehicle on the runway, prompting a ground stop and  NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) investigation.

The CRJ-900 aircraft, operated by Jazz Aviation, was arriving from Montreal and had slowed to approximately 24 mph when it struck a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting truck responding to a separate incident. The plane’s nose and cockpit sustained significant damage.

A preliminary passenger list showed 76 individuals were aboard, including four crew members. Local media reported multiple injuries; official figures have not yet been released.

The Federal Association Aviation (FAA)  issued a ground stop late Sunday night and said it would likely be extended. The Port Authority confirmed emergency protocols were activated immediately, with police and fire departments responding.

The NTSB has launched an investigation into the accident. Authorities advised travelers to expect cancellations, road closures, and delays, and to avoid the area. All streets and highway exits into the airport remain closed.
