KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested early Saturday morning under a single urgent arrest warrant issued by the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

The warrant stated that the arrest was necessary in connection with a case involving offenses related to loss of life. It referenced Schedule 9 and Section 9, Subsection 6 of the Muluki Criminal Procedure Code 2017, which allows police to make an urgent arrest if the accused might flee, evade justice, or destroy evidence.

Police sources said the arrest followed the legal provision for urgent warrants, with the intention of presenting the accused to the court within 24 hours. Since the arrest occurred on a public holiday, the 24-hour period will begin once the courts reopen.

The police stressed that this procedure ensures the arrests are legally compliant while addressing the immediate necessity to take Oli and Lekhak into custody.
