KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman K.P. Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who were arrested early Saturday morning from their residences, will be held in Kathmandu Police Range custody for investigation.

Police sources said to Nepal News that both leaders will first undergo medical examinations before being transferred to the Bhadrakali detention facility under the District Police Range for further investigation.

The arrests follow the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry, led by former high court judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, which had suggested action over police suppression of protesters during the Gen-Z uprising on September 08, 2025.

The decision to implement the commission’s recommendations was taken by the first cabinet meeting of the government led by Balendra Shah on Friday, under whose directive Oli and Lekhak were taken into police custody.
