KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management has increased public transport fares once again, with the new rates coming into effect from Wednesday.
According to the department, fares for inter-provincial passenger vehicles, freight vehicles operating on hilly routes, and freight vehicles operating on Terai routes have all been increased by 5 percent.
This is the second fare hike in recent months, following a similar increase implemented on April 8.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport had given approval for the latest revision on April 25, after which the department implemented the adjustment.
The department stated that the current diesel price stands at Rs 235.83 per litre, which has influenced the fare revision.
However, it clarified that electric vehicles are not allowed to increase fares, and warned of action against any EV operators found charging higher rates.
