KAVREPALANCHOK: Authorities have halted traffic along the B.P. Highway from Monday evening due to rising risks caused by continuous rainfall.

According to the District Police Office, Kavre, vehicular movement has been suspended along the road section from Chaunkidanda in Namobuddha Municipality to Nepalthok in Sindhuli.

Police said the decision was taken after heavy rainfall triggered a significant surge in the Roshi River, posing potential danger to travelers.

Police said the restriction came into effect from 5:00 PM on Monday to prevent possible incidents.

Authorities have urged the public to travel only after assessing road conditions and advised against using this section of the highway until further notice.

Frequent flooding in the Roshi River has repeatedly disrupted this stretch of the highway, particularly between Chaunkidanda and Nepalthok, where temporary diversions have often been washed away.

Earlier, in mid-April, flooding had blocked the road at the same location, reopening only after two days.

Officials said around four kilometers of diversion roads in the Roshi area were swept away by the recent rains.

Similarly, in early April, floods damaged multiple sections, requiring reconstruction of temporary diversions.

Last year’s floods and landslides had washed away nearly 18 kilometers of the highway in Chaunkidanda, Roshi, and Nepalthok areas, forcing traffic to rely on diversions built along the highway.

At present, permanent road construction is underway in the affected sections, according to authorities.

Following the disruption, vehicles have been held at entry points including Dhulikhel, Kavrebhanjyang, Mangalatar, and Nepalthok, the District Traffic Office, Banepa said.
