DHANGADHI: Medical crusader senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Govinda KC was urgently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Seti Provincial Hospital on Saturday after his physical condition deteriorated sharply on the third day of his 24th fast-unto-death in Dhangadhi.

Dr. KC had been staging his hunger strike at Room 211 of the Krishna Mandir Dharmashala (a pilgrim rest house) in Dhangadhi-1 since Thursday, pressing a five-point demand for comprehensive reforms in Nepal’s medical education and healthcare sector.

Following a morning health checkup by Dr. Gajendra Duwal, medical personnel discovered that Dr. KC’s blood pressure stood at 110/90 while his blood sugar level had dropped to a critical low of 50 mg/dL.

The sharp drop in sugar caused severe muscle cramps, speech difficulties, and mobility issues.

Attending doctors immediately recommended ICU admission, prompting his transfer from the Krishna Mandir venue to Seti Provincial Hospital, where treatment is currently underway.
