KATHMANDU: The government has abolished the Land Problem Settlement Commission through an ordinance introduced to amend some Nepal Acts.

The commission had been formed under provisions of the Land Act, 1964 to distribute land to landless Dalits and squatters, and to manage unregulated settlers.

With the new ordinance, Sub-section (3) of Section 52(a) and Sub-section (6) of Section 52(b) of the Land Act have been repealed, effectively dissolving the commission.

In place of the commission, the government has kept a provision to form task forces or committees as needed.

The amended law also allows the formulation of guidelines or procedures to address land-related issues.
