KATHMANDU: A landless settlers’ rights group staged a protest against the government at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Friday.
The protesters accused the government of using bulldozers to demolish informal settlements across the country without providing alternatives or proper rehabilitation, leaving many people displaced and vulnerable.
Participants chanted slogans against the government while carrying metal plates and spoons during the demonstration.
The protesters also demanded an immediate halt to settlement evictions carried out without alternative housing arrangements, calling such actions a violation of human rights.
They urged the government to identify genuine squatters and ensure proper rehabilitation and management.
