KATHMANDU: Eleven members of the same family fell ill after consuming wild mushrooms in Bahradashi Rural Municipality.
The incident took place in Buttabari of Bahradashi Rural Municipality-2, where the family of Tej Bahadur Khawas ate a mushroom dish prepared from wild mushrooms during breakfast on Sunday morning.
According to District Police Office Jhapa Information Officer Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, all family members developed health complications after eating mushrooms collected from the forest. The victims include 50-year-old Kamalamaya Khawas, 31-year-old Dilli Khawas, 20-year-old Anita Khawas, and eight children.
The patients were immediately taken to Provincial Hospital Bhadrapur for treatment. After initial care, nine of them were referred to a children’s hospital in Damak for further treatment.
Police said that two patients are in moderate condition, while the others are in stable condition.
Meanwhile, police have urged the public not to consume unidentified wild mushrooms, warning that they may be poisonous and pose serious health risks.
