KATHMANDU: Legendary Nepali climber Kami Rita Sherpa has successfully summited Mount Everest for the 32nd time, extending his own world record for the highest number of ascents of the world’s tallest peak.

Kami Rita reached the summit on Sunday, once again surpassing the record he had previously set himself.

Following the successful climb, he is currently descending toward Everest Base Camp.

Born in January 1970, Kami Rita has held the record for the most Everest ascents.

He last climbed Everest for the 31st time on May 27, 2025, breaking the record he had set a year earlier.

Mountaineering runs deep in his family. His father was among the first professional Sherpa guides after Nepal opened Mount Everest to foreign climbers in the 1950s. .

Following the latest historic ascent, preparations have begun in Kathmandu to welcome the veteran climber home.
