KATHMANDU: Police have arrested four individuals on charges of cheating people by promising jobs abroad and collecting large sums of money illegally.
The arrests were made by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office after receiving complaints that the suspects had defrauded multiple victims by falsely promising foreign employment opportunities.
Those arrested include Narayan Joshi, a resident of Katahari Rural Municipality-6 in Morang, who was arrested from Dhanusha. He is accused of defrauding 14 people of around Rs 4.8 million by promising jobs in Qatar.
Another arrested suspect is Gopal Bikram Rana from Barahatal Rural Municipality-2 in Surkhet, arrested from Teku. He allegedly cheated three people of Rs 2 million by promising employment in Iraq.
Similarly, Navaraj Paudel of Tilottama Municipality-1, and Ngwang Lama of Nason Rural Municipality-6 in Manang, were also arrested. Paudel is accused of taking Rs 300,000 from one victim by promising jobs in Australia, while Lama allegedly cheated one person of Rs 1 million by promising employment in Croatia.
All four suspects have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action.
