KATHMANDU: A group of youth staged a protest in Chitwan today (Sunday), demanding the abolition of taxes levied on petroleum products.

Organized by the Chitwan branch of the “Gari Khana Deu” (Let Us Earn a Living) campaign and led by Gen Z activist Miraj Dhungana, the protest was held against the continuous price hikes by the Nepal Oil Corporation. To mark their protest, participants dragged their motorcycles and scooters on foot rather than riding them.

The rally, organized under the “Abolish 6 Taxes on Petroleum Products Campaign,” started at Chaubiskothi Chowk and concluded at Lions Chowk.

During the event, the youth carried placards and banners with slogans such as “Let Us Earn a Living” and “Good Governance Disappears Under the Burden of High Inflation.”

The protestors demanded that the government immediately abolish or reduce the six different types of taxes imposed on petroleum products to provide relief to the general public from the crushing burden of inflation. They also warned of launching a stronger movement if their demands are not met.
