MACAU: The 73rd Mt. Everest Day has been celebrated in Macau with vibrant displays showcasing the art and culture of the Himalayan region.

Organized by the United Nepali Diaspora Macau, the event featured not only Nepalese cultural showcases but also traditional performances from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Mt. Everest Day is celebrated annually on May 29 to commemorate the historic day in 1953 when Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa of Nepal became the first individuals to successfully summit the world’s highest peak.

While the official day falls on May 29, the celebrations in Macau were held five days ahead of the actual date.

The event was jointly co-organized by the Caritas Macau Wellness Center and the Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong.
