KATHMANDU: Mingma David Sherpa (Mingma Gyabu Sherpa), a sitting Member of Parliament from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), successfully summited Mount Everest at 5:40 AM on Wednesday.

Climbing under the slogan “From the House to the Peak,” he carried the logo of the federal parliament to the summit, completing the ascent on the ninth day of his expedition before returning to Base Camp that evening.

Sherpa entered parliament after being elected through the Janajati proportional representation constituency in March 5 general election.

Beyond his political career, Sherpa is an elite mountaineer. He is the 43rd person to climb all 14 of the world’s eight-thousand-meter peaks, notably summiting nine of them during the 2019 “Project Possible” expedition.

He also made history on January 16, 2021, as part of the 10-member Nepali team that achieved the first-ever winter ascent of K2.
