POKHARA: Pokhara Metropolitan City today launched a major demolition campaign at Prithvi Chowk, one of the city’s busiest intersections, to remove illegally constructed structures obstructing planned road expansion works.
The clearance operation began in the morning along the section stretching from Prithvi Chowk toward Nayabazar, particularly targeting buildings situated in front of Hong Kong Bazar. Authorities deployed two bulldozers to tear down structures identified as being built on encroached public land.
According to the metropolitan office, several organizations had occupied land owned by government agencies for years. Some of the buildings reportedly housed offices of labor unions affiliated with major political parties, including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, while portions of the properties had also been rented out for commercial purposes.
