KATHMANDU: In a major policy shift aimed at liberalizing the economy and improving the ease of doing business, the government has announced plans to ease restrictions on outbound foreign investment for Nepalese citizens and dramatically simplify company exit procedures.
Presenting the federal budget for Fiscal Year 2026/27 before a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle stated that the government will introduce provisions to facilitate Nepali citizens looking to legally invest abroad.
Simultaneously, to foster a genuinely investment-friendly ecosystem domestically, the budget addresses a long-standing grievance of entrepreneurs by focusing on the full business lifecycle. Dr. Wagle announced that the process for company liquidation and closure will be made hassle-free and straightforward.
Previously, shutting down a business in Nepal was a notoriously complex process, often taking years and forcing entrepreneurs to navigate grueling legal and bureaucratic hurdles.
