KATHMANDU: The Nepal School Employees Council has demanded a reconsideration regarding the increase of their services and facilities in the budget presented by the Government of Nepal in parliament for the upcoming fiscal year.

Issuing a press release today, the Council stated that clarity is required in the budget concerning the pay scale, job permanence, and social security of school employees working in community schools.

The statement, issued by the Council’s Chairman Gangaram Tiwari and General Secretary Shantiram Yogi, noted that despite repeatedly meeting, discussing, and drawing the attention of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, leadership of various political parties, respective ministers, and high-ranking government officials to address the legitimate demands of school employees, their demands have not yet been addressed.

The Council has urged for the explicit fulfillment of demands regarding the pay scale, job permanence, social security, and services and facilities of school employees during the discussion and endorsement process of the budget.

Currently, there are 30,346 school employees working across 27,010 schools nationwide. Among them, 7,623 are school assistants and 22,723 are school attendants (helpers), according to the Council.
