Nepal welcomes over 102,000 foreign tourists in May

KATHMANDU: Nepal recorded more than 102,000 foreign tourist arrivals in May 2026, reflecting continued growth in the country’s tourism sector.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 102,626 international visitors entered Nepal during the month, an increase of 19 percent compared to 86,216 arrivals in May 2025. The figure also surpassed the pre-pandemic level of 78,329 arrivals recorded in May 2019.

India remained the largest source market with 40,782 visitors, followed by China (11,514), United States (9,001), Bangladesh (5,298), and the United Kingdom (3,375).

Tourists from SAARC nations accounted for 47.2 percent of total arrivals, followed by visitors from other Asian countries, Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, and other regions.
