KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has issued a three-day weather alert for three days, warning of intense heatwave conditions across parts of the Terai and thunderstorms in several hilly and mountainous districts.
According to the Division, temperatures in Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa and Dhangadhi are expected to reach between 40°C and 42°C during the period, while Simara, Janakpur and Biratnagar could record temperatures of up to 38°C. Residents in the southern plains have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat and remain hydrated.
Meanwhile, parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds. The weather system could affect areas including Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Dhankuta, Taplejung, Dadeldhura, Dipayal and Jumla.
The department has urged the public to take precautions against heat-related illnesses in the plains and remain alert to lightning strikes and localized storms in hilly regions over the next three days.
